Death by Chocolate Ladyfingers - Death by Chocolate Mystery #9

Death by Chocolate Ladyfingers is the 9th "Jake" Tiptree baking-shop amateur cozy by Sarah Graves. Released 28th April 2026 by Kensington on their Cozy imprint, it's 320 pages and is available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. Paperback due out from the same publisher in 2nd quarter 2027. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This is a standalone mystery in a long running series featuring many returning characters in an ensemble cast. There's a very light paranormal element, but it doesn't play a significant role in this particular story. It's set in coastal Maine, and the main protagonist, Jake, runs a bakery and has quite a storied past, although these days she mostly confines herself to baking in between solving murders.

It's very light, well written, with (mostly) believable dialogue, a "caper" feel, and an over-the-top, satisfying denouement and resolution. Although it works well as a standalone, the characters do have a significant shared past, and some minor spoilers should be expected if read out of order.

Four stars. It would be a good choice for fans of light small town American cozies, or a binge/buddy read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
