Laundry Love is an interesting philosophical and warmly humorous love letter to laundry and textiles by Patric Richardson. Due out 30th March 2021 from Macmillan on their Flatiron Books imprint, it's 208 pages and will be available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats.
This is a genuinely engaging thorough tutorial with solid information aimed at extending the life of our clothes, taking care of the items we have and saving time, using economical environmentally friendly cleaning products (which are less expensive than pre-packaged single use "pods"), and making a household chore less unpleasant (or dare I say it, actually fun).
From the information the author provides throughout the chatty text, it seems we grew up in the same geographic area of Appalachia during roughly the same decades (he looks a few years younger than I am), and I recognized so many of the archetypal characters from his formative years. I could "hear" their voices as I was reading - so this read was much more for me than just a dry tutorial guide to doing laundry.
Five stars. Beautifully written, engaging, warmly funny, exuberant, and full of valuable info. I really honestly loved this quirky book. I want more from this author.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
