Dog Care for Puppies is a tutorial and knowledge guide by Vanessa Charbonneau for new/prospective puppy owners. Due out 14th July 2020 from Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint,
it's 194 pages (for the print copy) and available in paperback and ebook formats (ebook is available now). It's worth
noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents
as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with
interactive formats lately. For
Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is included in the KU
subscription library to borrow and read for free.
The introduction (indeed the whole book) is written very clearly and
covers everything from preparing to adopt, to necessary supplies to "how-to" tutorials and
techniques for making the whole training and acclimatization rewarding and painless for both the puppy and his/her new human family. The author writes authoritatively but without being strident or preachy, and the concepts are well defined and layman accessible. Subjects such as grooming, food & nutrition, growth, health, happiness, exercise & play, and basic training are covered well and attainably.
Adopting a dog is a huge commitment and a puppy brings another level of adjustments and realities into the mix. Being both well prepared and armed with realistic expectations is the best manner to approach such a profound lifestyle change both for the puppy's sake and the sake of his new 'pack' family. The author also includes comprehensive chapter footnotes, and a number of active links for further reading and information online. Finally, the entire book is full of absolutely adorable stock photos of puppies doing adorable puppy things.
Four stars. Well written and accessible.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
