The Bat Book

The Bat Book is a new science based book about bats by Charlotte Milner. Due out 4th Feb 2020 from Penguin Random House on their DK imprint, it's 48 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a sweet and appealing short book aimed at younger readers (k-3) with science based accessible information and illustrations about bats. The introductory sections discuss the physiology and classification of bats, along with interesting facts about behavior, socialization, ecological niche, habitats and more. The writing style is simple and positive and shows bats as fascinating creatures with a positive benefit to nature.

The book includes important information about the threats to bat habitats and why some species are in decline (and what we can do to make a difference). The art is beautifully simple and appealing. This would make a great read-along or library/classroom group activity, helping make seed balls or pollinator friendly green spaces.

The book includes a very simple index of species pictured in the book. There are no additional links or resources included.

Beautifully made and worthwhile. Four stars.
