The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Bundle

The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Bundle contains the first 4 titles in the Hedgewitches series spinoff from Womby's School for Wayward Witches by Sarina Dorie. Released 7th Nov 2019, it's 492 pages and the bundle is available in ebook format.

Although this is a background story for central characters in the Womby's series, these four books work quite well as standalones together. The author does a good job of filling in the blanks. I had never read her other books, and I had no trouble following the plot or keeping the characters straight in my head.

This bundle is very well written and plotted. The characters are well delineated, believable, and (mostly) sympathetic. It's satisfying when the bad guys get what's coming to them. However. Although this series fits well within the YA/NA genre, there is a lot of graphic violence here. There are mature/horror themes such as death of children, maternal/fetal loss, threatened and actual cannibalism, necrophilia, body horror with cannibalistic plants, murder, self harm, violence, etc.

For Kindle Unlimited subscribers; this bundle (and most of the author's oeuvre) is available in the KU subscription to borrow and download for free. It's also worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

Four stars for this bundle overall for me, five for fans of the series who know what they're getting into. It really is quite readable. There were some scenes which were way over the top for me, but would be fine for fans of magical horror.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
